It is that time of the year again where we slow down and focus on getting back on track. The wonderful beaches and patios of summer gets replaced with more downtime spent inside watching shows, or hanging out with friends with a cup of tea or glass of wine. As the season changes and things relax into a slower pace it is important to apply this pace and the nurturing this season brings to your relationships as well.
Did you know that research supports that the only thing in life guaranteed to make you happy is your relationships? It isn’t very often that we get such guarantees, which goes to show you the importance of investing in your relationships. If you were to take some time to reflect, where do you need to invest more into your relationships right now? Perhaps it is your relationships with your kids. Maybe as a parent you have been busy and haven’t had the same time to check in and see how things are going. Or if your children are small, maybe you haven’t gotten down and played with them on their level in awhile.
Perhaps it is your relationship with your partner. Sometimes the busyness of summer means we spend a lot of time out and about doing things but haven’t really connected as a couple in awhile. Maybe its time to start setting aside time for date nights again where you two spend time together doing some of your favorite things and reestablish that strong connection.
If it is your friendships that have not been nurtured lately, picking up the phone and arranging a get together is all it takes to feel like you are reconnecting and having a great time. It doesn’t have to be all the time, but often enough that you all feel enriched and satisfied by the relationship you have built.
Relationships really are one of the most important parts of an individual’s lives and like most important things they require us to continually invest in “tune-ups” to make sure they are as healthy and successful as they can be. Take some time this fall to reprioritize your relationships. Your life will be better for it!
Tell me, who are you going to invest in right now?
